About Us

Alphonsa hospital Murickassery, previously known as Samaritan Hospital, occupies a unique position on the map of healthcare and Medical Service. Serving the wide- ranging needs of the patients with love, care, concern and compassion, the institution had earned the stamp of good health care. We are proud to say that our hospital has helped lakhs of people to regain their good heath and come back to normal life. The foundation stone of Alphonsa hospital, was laid by Mar.George Punnakottil then Bishop of Kothamangalam in 1990 and Sri.T M Jacob hon’ble Minister for Irrigation, Govt.of Kerala inaugurated it in 1993.This hospital is an initiative of Franciscan Clarist Congregation as part of its humanitarian services. Efficiency and foresight of our Provincials, Directors, Administrators and the whole staff contributed to better the quality of life in the society through preventive and curative services. .....

The increasing demand for palliative care and service in the society prompted the authorities to open a separate center for in-patient palliative care, SANTHITHEERAM in 2003 to render holistic care to the patients free of cost. In the present scenario, this centre has become a solace for hundreds of cancer patients and others like terminally ill patients, poor and destitute.

To reach out our support to the alcoholics, Drug addicts and their families we started a DE–ADDICTION Centre in 2014.

HEMODIALYSIS UNIT, opened in the year2019 is yet another initiative in our service to support the growing number of patients at a cheaper rate in the locality itself. At present daily around 50 patients are given regular hemodialysis service in our Centre.

As part of our social commitment the hospital conducts periodical free medical camps and awareness programmers in various remote areas in the diocese. The hospital also provides resource persons for school health programmers and marriage preparation courses and family counselling centers in the diocese. SEHIONOOTTUSALA, opened in the premise of palliative center which provides free lunch every day for the wandering and needy people in the locality is another humanitarian venture initiated by the hospital.

The management and staff acknowledge with gratitude to the Almighty for the incessant blessings showered upon this institution throughout these years. Foundation stone was laid by Mar. George Punnakottil the Bishop of Kothamangalam in 1990. In 1993, The new hospital building inaugurated by Sri.T M Jacob - The honorable minister for Irrigation Gov.of Kerala.

By September 2003, the pain and palliative center – SANTHITHEERAM was started.

Shri P J Joseph – PWD minister had laid the foundation stone for the building and Idukki Bishop Mar Mathew Anikuzhikattil had blessed and inaugurated the center.
